Hyundai India has recently begun testing its main stream EV SUV for India. The spy shots suggest that the car in question is an All-Electric Creta SUV. The prototype has been spotted by an Auto enthusiast while charging his electric car at a public charging station near Chennai. The Creta Electric prototype also stopped at the charging station for getting a quick charge.
The Auto enthusiast spotted two prototypes of the Creta EV at the charging station. The car spotted was almost identical to its ICE powered version but a close look revealed that there is an extension beneath the center of the floor where the battery pack has been placed. The use of the current ICE powered platform of the Creta for Electric version will allow Hyundai to optimize cost since most of the current version is localized. Tata and Mahindra have also applied the same approach for Tata Nexon Electric and Mahindra XUV400 Electric. This will help Hyundai India to manufacture the car with minimum changes and minimum investments to its existing assembly lines.
Hyundai Creta Electric – Expected Powertrain and Range
Expected to debut at the 2025 Auto Expo, we know little about its specifications. We expect the Creta EV could get its critical electric systems from the Kona EV. Which means the Creta Electric could get a 100 KW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and a 39.2 Kwh Lithium-ion Polymer Battery pack producing a peak Power of 136 Hp and a peak Torque of 395Nm with an estimated Range of more than 450 kms.
Hyundai Creta Electric – Design
The main difference apart from the extension beneath the center of the floor, is this prototype was having a full Digital Instrument Cluster, the Gear Lever is being moved away from its conventional location from the center console to the right side of the Steering Wheel Column similar to the one in Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV. This has also left a blanked-out space on the center console. The other highlights of the spotted car are chunky HVAC Controls with larger Rotary Knobs as well as Aeroplan like toggle switches. It is expected to get a flowing center console, a Multi Spoke Steering Wheel with controls for MID and Infotainment System, 6 Airbags, ADAS and a 360-degree camera, to name a few.
The Exterior will sport vertical Head Lamp Cluster that will likely be a split unit and have Palisade-like Day Time Running Lamps. All new Front Grille with a square like detailing closely matching the Palisade. Creta Electric is expected to get multi spoke Alloy Wheels, a re-designed Tail Gate and a new Front and Rear Bumper.
However, this is only a pre-production prototype and the final product could have a completely different interior and exterior.
