The Tata Nexon EV is almost one year old now and does not need any introduction, perhaps it is the only car responsible for making Tata Motors the EV Leaders in India. The Tata Nexon EV’s launch and Tata Nexon EV Max’s launch has now made Tata Motors Leaders in EV Market Segment in India.
Nexon EV’s most serious competition is in the form of its arch-rival Mahindra, with Mahindra recently launching XUV-400 EV. Moreover it is Mahindra that introduced Electric Cars in India in the form of e-Verito & e-2O so we can assume that Mahindra might be having an upper hand in this EV Space tech. It also owns Automobili Pininfarina, a company that’s known to have cutting edge tech in the EV Space.
BATTERY, RANGE & CHARGING
The Nexon EV Max has a Standard Battery pack of 40.5 KWH generating 143 Hp and 250 Nm of torque whereas the XUV-4OO has 39.4 KWH Battery pack generating 150 Hp and 310 Nm of torque. The Tata Nexon EV uses LFP Cell chemistry in its batteries whereas Mahindra uses NMC Cell chemistry. NMC cell chemistry packs in more energy but has shorter life span whereas LFP batteries are less energy dense but are thermally more secure and has a longer life span.
The Tata takes 5 Hrs 33 Minutes to charge from 10% to 100% whereas XUV-4OO takes 6 Hrs 30 Minutes to charge, both use a 7.2 KWH AC Fast Charger. On a 30 KWH DC Fast Charger XUV-4OO takes 50 Minutes to charge from 10% to 80% whereas Tata Nexon EV Max takes 60 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.
The Company Claims a mileage of 453 Kms on the Nexon EV Max and 456 Kms on the XUV-400. On actual driving conditions, with 100% charge and in a mix of City & Highway Drive with AC switched on, the Nexon EV gives around 243 kms of range whereas XUV-400 gives around 253 kms of range.
INTERIOR SPACE
The XUV-400 EV has an old school vertical Dash Board Design with a lot of buttons on the center console making it too crowded at the center whereas Tata Nexon EV has a more modern & futuristic Dash Board. The XUV-4OO does score more than the Nexon EV in terms of larger and more usable storage spaces upfront. The Nexon’s Beige, Black & Silver color theme scores more than XUV’s Black & Dark Grey layout. The build quality and the fit and finish are higher in the Mahindra.
The Rear Seats of XUV-4OO are more spacious than the Tata Nexon EV with the XUV having tall seating position with greater width to accommodate three adults comfortably. The Nexon’s cabin is wide enough and comfortable for two adults with the knee room in both the cars being at par.
DIMENSIONS
The Tata Nexon EV measures 3993 mm in Length, 1811 mm in Width and 1616 mm in Height whereas Mahindra XUV-4OO measures 4200 mm in Length, 1821 mm in Width & 1634 mm in Height. The Tata Nexon EV has a wheel base of 2498 mm and Mahindra XUV-4OO has 2600 mm. The boot space of XUV-400 is 378 liters and is almost 28 liters more than the Tata Nexon EV.
FEATURES
Both the Cars in their top spec trims comes with all the basics such as Sunroof, Auto Head Lamps, Auto Wipers, Premium Upholstery, Drive Modes, etc., the XUV-400 however misses good features like a Wireless Mobile Charger, Ventilated Front Seats, Auto IRVM, Climate Control and Cruise Control. Both the cars get Touch Screen Infotainment System with Android Auto & Apple Car Play and Connected Car Tech. The XUV-400’s User Interface being more responsive.
SAFETY
The XUV400 scores over the Nexon in the terms of offering 6 Air Bags as standard whereas the Nexon scores in offering a number of Active Safety features like ESC, HAC, Traction Control, Tyre Pressure Monitor, etc.
PRICE
The Tata Nexon EV starts at Rs. 14.49 lacs going upto Rs. 17.19 Lacs and the Mahindra XUV-4OO starts at Rs. 15.99 lacs going upto Rs. 18.99 lacs for the top spec trim. The Prices are Ex-Showroom Delhi.
