Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan has recently unveiled its plans for an All New Electric Vehicle with an all new battery technology that could offer a range of more than 900 miles or 1500 kms and could be a potential game changer for the Electric Vehicle market.
Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan at the unveiling, announced that the new battery technology will be Solid State EV Battery Tech. Toyota stated that the simplified production of the materials used to produce Solid State Batteries will enable them to roll out an all new Electric Vehicle by 2025 which will have an estimated range of 450 miles or 750 kilometers and will extend the Cruising Speed by almost 20%.
A higher performance version is still under Research and Development stage which will have the potential to deliver 50% more Driving Range of over 900 miles or 1500 kms, according to Toyota. This would perhaps mean that you can get from Delhi to Mumbai in a Single Charge and Charging Time would be little over 10 minutes.
Solid State Batteries are now regarded as a potential turning point for Electric Vehicles as compared to Lithium-ion Batteries which uses Liquid Electrolytes. Solid State Batteries will have the potential to reduce Charging Times, Increase Range and Capacity and Reduce Fire Risks.
While Solid State Batteries have been around for quite some time but manufacturers have been facing problems in scaling up its production to use them in main stream Electric Vehicles. Many companies are thereby working on this problem with Solid State Batteries and some even have developed a way to 3D print these Batteries in different Shapes and Sizes.
Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan, however, claims that it has made a break through in Solid State Battery manufacturing that will actually make this set up easier to produce than a Lithium-ion set up.
It is not a very long way to see break throughs like Solid State Batteries in the Electric Vehicle Market where we can expect Electric Vehicles with the help of such technologies will be an Individual’s main stream Vehicles in the future barring the current limitations accorded to EVs.
