Hyundai Motor India has launched its much awaited Mini- SUV or a Compact SUV “EXTER” in India recently. The Mini-SUV will be slotted below Hyundai Venue and it is based on Hyundai’s entry level hatchback Grand i10 Nios. The Exter will only be available with a Petrol engine with an option of a CNG variant. The Hyundai Exter shall be a direct rival to Tata Punch and Maruti Ignis. We provide a sneak peak into the SUV.
ENGINE, POWER & FUEL EFFICIENCY
The Hyundai Exter comes with a BS6 – Stage II compliant 1.2 litre Naturally Aspirated Petrol Engine similar to the Venue, Grand i10 Nios and Aura. The engine is tuned to produce a Peak Power of 82 Bhp and 114 Nm of Peak Torque mated to 5 Speed Manual Transmission and a 5 Speed AMT with Paddle Shifters. The Petrol Engine has an ARAI Certified mileage of 19.4 Kmpl.
The Exter CNG variant is also offered with same Engine but has a De-Tuned output of 68 Bhp and 95 Nm of Torque mated to a 5 Speed Manual Transmission only. The ARAI Certified mileage of the CNG variant is 27.1 Km/Kg.
EXTERIOR
The Hyundai Exter follows the Brand’s Parametric Jewel Design Philosophy which is quite evident with a Gloss Black Patterns on the Front Bumper, Tail Gate and C-Pillar. The Hyundai Exter has an SUV-ish appeal with a tall and upright stance with a generous use of Plastic Claddings, Roof Rails and Squared Wheel Arches.
The Front of Hyundai Exter sports a Signature H-Shaped LED DRLs in the split Head Lamp set up with the LED Tail Lamps sporting the same Signature H-Shaped pattern. The Length of the Exter stands at 3815 mm which is identical to Grand i10 Nios with 1710 mm of Width, 1631 mm of Height and 2450 mm of Wheel Base. The Top Spec variant will ride on 15 inch Diamond Cut Dual Tone Alloy Wheels. The Front also sports “EXTER” branding below the Hood which has been used for the first time in any Hyundai Car.
The Hyundai Exter will be available in 6 Monotone and 3 Dual Tone Color options. The Color options available are Cosmic Blue, Ranger Khaki, Atlas White, Titan Grey, Starry Night and Fiery Red. The White, Khaki and Blue Colors are also available with a contrasting Black Roof.
INTERIOR
The Cabin of the Hyundai Exter is similar to the Grand i10 Nios. The Dash Board Pattern, 3 Spoke Steering Wheel and the 8” Touch Screen Infotainment System are all taken over from the Grand i10 Nios. The Exter however offers three different Interior Color themes- Light Sage, Cosmic Blue and Silver depending upon the variant you choose.
The Front Seats have fixed type Head Rests and the centre console and Dash Board incorporates Two cup holders, a Cooled Glove Box and a Wireless Charging Pad. The Exter comes with a fully Digital Instrument Cluster with a 4.2 inch Colored Multi Information Display similar to the one offered in i20 & Verna. Rear Aircon Vents, Charging Ports, Adjustable Rear Head Rests and Rear Power Windows are all there to welcome Rear seat Passengers.
The Hyundai Exter like any other Hyundai, is loaded with features. 8” Touch Screen Infotainment System with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, Height Adjustable Driver’s Seat, Voice Enabled Electric Sunroof, Automatic Climate Control, Ambient Foot well Lights, Dual Dash Cam with Front and Rear View and Hyundai Blue Link connected Tech with 60 telematics features are all there, to name a few.
SAFETY
The biggest highlight of the Hyundai Exter is 6 Airbags offered as Standard across all the variants. Other passive Safety features include a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Rear View Camera, Auto Head Lamps, Keyless Entry and 3 point Seat Belts for all Seats with reminders.
VARIANTS
The Petrol Hyundai Exter will be available in 5 variants EX, S, SX, SX(O) and SX(O) Connect with the CNG only available in the S and SX trims.
PRICE
The Hyundai Exter is available at an introductory starting Price of Rs. 6.00 Lakh (Ex-Showroom) for the Manual variants, Rs. 7.97 Lakh (Ex-Showroom) for the Automatic variants and RS. 8.24 Lakh for the CNG variants.
