Tata Nano EV – Smallest Electric Car to be named Electra Nano EV

Electric Cars are day by day gaining more and more popularity among Indian car buyers making Tata Motors as one of the major Electric Car manufacturers in India. Nexon EV, Tiago EV and Tigor EV have been Tata’s most successful Electric Car offerings in India till now. Electra EV, a leader in Electric Vehicle Solutions has now developed an electric vehicle based on Tata Nano in collaboration with Tata Motors. Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group, has already received the first Electric Nano recently.

Electra EV also recently produced around 400 Tata Nano EVs for a company named Jayem, Chennai under the brand name “Jayem Neo” which were supposed to be sold to a Taxi aggregator in Chennai for use as commercial taxis but due to Covid-19 lockdowns, the project could not see the light.

Tata Nano EV Features

Nano EV initially been launched for a Taxi Operator in Chennai, is expected to be made available for the general public in India. The exact list of features is not known but might have the following basic Comfort, Convenience and Safety features:

Tata Nano EV Motor, Battery Life and Range 

The Nano EV has been incorporated with a 72V Battery Design which will enable Electra EV to enhance the range of Nano EV similarly to what it has done in the Tata Tigor EV (Taxi variant). The same architecture has enabled Tata Tigor Xpress “T” EV’s range to top 213 Kms without any changes to the main Powertrain. 

The Nano EV appears identical to its ICE powered version. It will be a compact hatchback with 4 doors and 4 seats. The Powertrain will be powered with Super-Polymer Lithium-Ion batteries. The Nano EV is expected to have an ARAI Certified range of 160 Km on a single charge with four passengers with air conditioner switched on.

The Nano EV will be driven by 48-Volt Electric Motor with a Maximum Power Output of 23 hp. The curb weight of the electric variant is expected to be around 800 kg while the 623cc 2 Cylinder Engine Powered Nano weighed 755 kg.

Tata Nano EV Design

The Nano EV Design will be almost similar to its ICE powered version with similar Squared-off Wheel Arches, Crisp creases on the Tail Gate, Tower Shaped Tail Lights and similar Head Light set up. The only difference will be an Electric Grille up front. The Nano EV having a small Battery Pack will be light and easy to manoeuvre.

Tata Nano Electric  Interior 

On the inside also the Nano EV will sport a Spacious and Comfortable cabin along with similar Interior lay out of the ICE powered Tata Nano but will be have a more premium fit & finish and a premium Upholstery inside. The cabin will also greet passengers with an all new Touch Screen Infotainment system, a Digital Instrument Cluster and more.  

Tata  Nano EV Launch Date & Price 

The Tata Nano Electric will branded as Electra Nano EV. The Price of the Electra Nano EV is not known till now but is expected to be priced around Rs. 5.00 Lakh when launched for Private Car buyers. The Nano EV will be the cheapest four seater and 4 door electric car in India. The Electra will sell it as Electra Nano EV but Tata Motors will also launch its own version in the near future thus increasing Tata’s Electric Vehicle port folio to four models. 

The Electra Nano EV would be able to gain a mass acceptance by Indian Car buyers looking for a compact city car for daily commute having zero tail pipe emissions, easy on the pocket and is loaded with all the basic comfort features like air conditioning, Infotainment System and more.
