Tata Tiago EV Medium Range – One Month Drive Report

Tata Tiago EV Medium Range: Money saved is Money earned. This is a mantra which every Middle-Class household follows when buying even the smallest things in life. Let it be Wearable’s, Electronics, Household items, Kitchen items or even a Vehicle. Some things are bought for their durability while some are bought for their reliability and some are bought on a Budget. Nothing in a Middle-Class family is bought for an experiment or a trial. Each and every experiment or trial is done before buying.

With the same thought in our mind, we started looking for a small Hatchback for our family under a budget of Rs. 10.00 lakh. The criteria were clear, car should be a small Hatchback, it should be an Automatic and it has to be used Intra-intra city. The decision-making process started in March 2023 and after lot of research through Expert Reviews, YouTube Videos & References, finally at the end of April 2023, we narrowed down our choice to two cars Maruti Swift VXI AMT and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios AMT Sports. Both the cars were costing around Rs. 8.75 Lakh on road Delhi.

You will notice that we are using Intra-intra city usage. It means that the car was supposed to be used within a radius of 7 kilometers with Daily usage of around 30-40 Kilometers. The area is highly vehicle dense and crowded, for example, going from our home to office in Old Delhi, it takes around 40 – 50 minutes in the morning peak hours, to cover almost 7 kilometers and takes more than 1 hour to come back in the Evening peak hours.

In our above, Intra-intra city usage, our current cars Maruti Dzire CNG and Maruti Brezza Diesel were already blowing up our pockets. Dzire CNG was consuming Rs. 600.00 worth of CNG for mere 90-100 Kilometers whereas our Maruti Vitara Brezza was giving us an average of 10-11 Kilometers per litre of Diesel. The running cost per km for Dzire was coming around Rs. 5.50 – Rs. 6.00 whereas the Brezza was costing us around Rs. 8.00 – Rs.9.00 per kilometer.

Tata Tiago EV MR: Buying Decision

Now, the bigger question was, what would these two short listed Automatic Hatchbacks would cost to run on our Intra-intra city usage. Expecting a Mileage of 10 Km per litre of Petrol, the approximate cost of Running was coming to around Rs. 9.50 – Rs. 10.00 per km. A meager 1000 Kilometer monthly run would cost us Rs. 10000.00, plus the Maintenance and Service costs for ICE Cars, which too now a days, comes to around Rs. 1.00 per kilometer for both Maruti and Hyundai Cars.

This Running cost fear turned us to think of an Electric car. With an Electric Car, there was no Range anxiety in our mind since the car was supposed to be driven only 30-40 Kilometers per day and the question of life after warranty was superseded by the Running and Maintenance Costs of a Petrol Car. MG Comet was launched but it did not excite us because of its 2-Door Design, too small foot prints complemented by its Extravagant Ex-Showroom Tag. Got some reference of Auto Vikas and took the test ride of Tiago EV at Auto Vikas, Moti Nagar, Delhi.

The Test Ride did wonders, diverted all the issues in our mind and finally got Tata Tiago EV Medium Range booked immediately. The Medium Range XT variant was the only variant suiting our budget. This was costing us around Rs. 9.51 Lakhs on road Delhi. The Longer Range XT version was costing Rs. 10.80 Lakhs on road Delhi.

After booking, we started looking for Ownership Reviews and Experiences of Tata Tiago EV over the net. But to our surprise we could not find a single review of Tata Tiago EV Medium Range on the Net or YouTube. All the Reviews/Videos/Experiences were of Tata Tiago Long Range. Finally took the delivery on 22.06.2023 of our first Electric Car and that day, we decided to put this detailed Blog/Review/Report on the net for reference for people like us, before buying one.

Tata Tiago EV MR: Regeneration Efficiency

One of the standout features of the Tata Tiago EV is its Regeneration Efficiency through Multi-Mode Regeneration levels, which has been recorded at an impressive 15.50% for July 2023. It means that out of the total Energy consumed to travel 1191.70 kilometers, 15.50% of the Energy was generated by the car itself. In layman language, this feature allows the car to Regenerate Energy through its Regenerative Braking System during Deceleration and Braking, thereby charging the Battery and extending the Vehicle’s Range. This Innovation not only enhances Efficiency but also provides a smoother Driving Experience. The Tata Tiago EV is equipped with a Regenerative Braking System with three modes Light, Medium and Heavy. We drove the Car at Level 2 (Medium) throughout the month.

Tata Tiago EV MR: Energy Efficiency

Now with this result, the App data answers the main question:

“Kitna deti hai?”  (Average Range)

The Energy Efficiency Statistic shows the Average Energy consumed by the car to cover one kilometer.

Get in Touch

  1. Appreciate the efforts to present detailed stats about medium range. Hardly there is any authentic information available in public domain. Could you please inform if you have faced any catastrophic issues or errors using this vehicle that has made you stationary on the road? Specifically the HV Critical Error?

    • Thanks for your appreciation. We have driven this car for almost 9200 kms till today. Did not face a single error or any issue till date. We shall be putting a 10000 kms ownership review very soon. Pls be tuned.

  2. Appreciate for your prompt response. Was planning to buy MR during march. Have seen enough YT videos where people are seen calling RSA since they faced this error including D2N error. The car rejected to move a inch. Unsure, if 10K kms are done by then. Could you please inform the range that you get in Delhi with MR? Although yours route is extraordinarily congested. 😊 Would you still suggest if MR is best suited for city if daily travel is within 100 kms? Or one should opt for LR?

    • Jitin ji, now Tata Motors have given a considerable Price Correction to all it’s Electric Vehicle range, we would suggest you to go for LR variant with a 7.2 Kwh Charger, only if your budget allows. Still managing 100 s per day including Jam Sessions with AC on will not be a problem with MR also.
