Hyundai India has recently launched its most affordable Compact SUV, the EXTER with an Introductory Price of Rs. 5.99 Lakh (Ex-Showroom). In the Compact SUV segment, though the Exter has main competitors like Tata Punch, Citroen C3 and Maruti Ignis, for which we have already done our comparison before, but it will not be undue to compare it with Maruti Fronx since some variants of both the cars fall under the same Price range.

In Engine options, both the Compact SUVs are available with a 1.2 litre Naturally Aspirated Engines whereby the Maruti Suzuki Fronx also gets an option of Turbo Petrol producing a Peak Power of 98.69 Hp and Peak Torque of 147.6 Nm. The Turbo Petrol option in the Maruti Suzuki Fronz is mated to either a 5 Speed Manual Transmission or CVT Automatic. Maruti Suzuki Fronx would perhaps be more appealing for buyers looking for a fully Automatic car instead of an AMT.

Both the Hyundai Exter and Maruti Suzuki Fronx are available with a factory fitted CNG option. The Exter CNG comes with the same 1.2 litre NA Petrol Engine detuned to produce a Peak Power of 69 Hp and Peak Torque at 95 Nm. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is also available with the same engine as its Petrol only variant and that too optimized for CNG producing a Peak Power of 76.43 Hp and a Peak Torque of 98.5 Nm. Both the cars in their Cng versions are only available with a 5 Speed Manual Transmission. Automatic or the AMT is not available with either of the two.

The Cng versions are almost at par in terms of Ex-showroom Prices of both the cars where Hyundai Exter is cheaper by a nominal marginal of Rs. 20 K.
